If New Year's resolutions are any indication, Americans yearn to be more physically fit. And many are finding encouragement by getting fitness inspiration — also known as "fitspo" — right in the palm of their hand.

Pop star Ke$ha has checked into a 30-day treatment facility for an eating disorder.
"I'm a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I've found it hard to practice," she said in a statement provided by her rep Friday. "I'll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder to learn to love myself again exactly as I am."

Kellan Lutz 'not serious' about Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus' new beau Kellan Lutz isn't serious about the relationship, it has been revealed.
According to E! News, the 28-year-old actor isn't comfortable with the amount of attention their casual romance is attracting.
A source said that the pair is an item but insisted they aren't serious because the 21-year-old singer is more interested in the 'Twilight' star, who was good friends with her ex-fiance, Liam Hemsworth.
The source added that the 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker likes Lutz a lot and there are a lot of similarities between him and Hemsworth, so he is her type.

Helicopter Rescue Begins for Stranded Antarctic Ship

Dozens of passengers aboard a Russian research ship stuck for over a week in the Antarctic ice are being evacuated Thursday, after a rescue helicopter finally was able to land nearby.

Video posted on Twitter by Chris Turney, one of the scientists on the ship, showed a Chinese helicopter carrying passengers from the Akademik Shokalskiy, which has been stranded since Christmas Eve

Port Harcourt shone brightly on Tuesday night, December 17 as top Nigerian artistes, Davido and Burna Boy rocked the oil rich city with their thrilling music during the 2013 edition of the Rivers State’s cultural and tourism carnival, CARNIRIV.
The annual international carnival, took place on Sunday, December 15 to Saturday, December 21 and etched the hearts of fun lovers who trooped out en masse to see the stars perform, sweet memories of first class entertainment.
The night tagged Hosh Jam: The Port Harcourt Exclusive held at the Liberation Stadium, which doubled as the Carnival Village.
Burna, fondly referred to as the ‘Port Harcourt boy’, was indeed at home as his numerous fans celebrated him with enthusiasm and applause to every line of songs that he dished out.  His highly successful hit track Like to Party appealed to fans more, throwing them in spectacular frenzy at several intervals. The fans had a swell time dancing to the tunes of the budding R&B act, who has stamped his authority in the industry.
Davido, the Skelewu crooner also set the stage on fire. As he mounted the stage, thousands of his fans in the Garden City were already charged, and scarcely has he played Skelewu than the fans went wild in jubilation. Skelewu is one of the most popular dance steps in the country.
Hosh Jam, being a musical concert, was designed to bring back the old memories of the 60s and 70s night life splendour and rustic life which had earlier started with a couple of highlife performances of old school vibes. The old school ambience was merged with the new school tunes as the former is the fore-bearer of the latter.

2014 will determine Nigeria’s future —Adeboye ;Presidential ticket may tear APC apart —T. B. Joshua

GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said the New Year, 2014, will determine the future of Nigeria.

Adeboye gave the prediction during the crossover service, held at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.
Adeboye, speaking on the New Year, said contrary to insinuations in some quarters that 2015 will determine the fate of the nation, “whatever will happen to Nigeria in 2015 will be determined this year, not 2015.”

2014 is the year of wearable tech: Sozzi

The HP-01 retailed for between $500 and $750 depending on what kind of band you chose.

 At $300 retail the Galaxy Gear costs less until you realize that it’s more or less useless without a matching phone and monthly service plan. As a freestanding device the Gear is every bit as ugly as the HP-01 and only slightly more useful.Not to worry says Brian Sozzi of Belus Capital Advisors, we’re only months away from a day science finally cracks the code and produces a wearable tech device that is affordable, useful and socially acceptable. “Wearable tech is going to rain down on retail in 2014,” gushes Sozzi in the attached clip. With this age of the wearable machine will come social media miracles like selfies, email and streaming of every sort. Basically everything a smartphone can do only shrunk down enough to wear with a wristband or on your face.

To be fair wearable tech did take some steps forward this year. Smart bands like the Fitbit Flex or Jawbone’s UP track calories burned, exercise patterns and sleep cycles without too much collateral social damage. It seems possible, indeed likely, that some company is going to be able to make a smartphone that is small enough to be useful as a freestanding device. The real question is why it hasn’t happened so far.  Apple (AAPL) has supposedly had revolutionary watches and televisions in the pipeline since before Steve Jobs died and Google (GOOG) is spending billions improving on the admittedly clunky eyewear its been leaking into the marketplace for months.

The potential size of the market is too big to ignore. Sozzi expects to see 50% compounded annual growth for wearables over the next five years. The key to getting there is going to be aesthetics and user interface. “It has to resemble the Nike (NKE) Fuel and not the Samsung Gear," he says.

That would be a start. Sozzi may be right but history suggests there’s no need to be an early adopter of wearable technology.  Based on what we’ve seen over the last three decades the prudent consumer is better off sticking with their iPhone for the foreseeable future.

James Avery Dead at 65: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's Uncle Phil Dies in L.A. Hospital

 
Avery recently underwent a surgery for an undisclosed illness. His wife,Barbara Avery, was at the hospital at the time of his death.Avery starred in Fresh Prince with Will Smith from 1990 to 1996. Shortly after his passing, his onscreen son, Alfonso Ribeiro, addressed about the loss via Twitter."I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly," the 42-year-old wrote, also sharing a picture of Avery with his wife.

Avery went on to appear in several other TV series, including The Jamie Foxx Show, The Division, That '70s Show, The Closer and Grey's Anatomy.

Legal marijuana sales begin in Colorado, making history

At the stroke of 8 a.m. on Wednesday Colorado became the first state in the nation where small amounts of retail marijuana legally can be sold in specialty shops.

The much anticipated first pot sales unfolded in a handful of stores across the state, ushering in a new era as many on both sides of the legalization debate watched the early transactions.

“One minute exactly until we make history,” shouted a harried Jay Griffin, the 43-year-old general manager of Dank Colorado, a tiny shop tucked into a nondescript office building in an industrial district of Denver. With hip, urban decor, the store looked much like an upscale coffee house.

Miley Cyrus Rings in 2014 With "Wrecking Ball" but Jenny McCarthy Licks the Hammer on New Year's Rockin' Eve

Miley Cyrus turned in a tame, appropriate-for-all-ages performance of "Adore You" and "Wrecking Ball" on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest last night, not even riding the famed ball in Times Square (as so many joked about ahead of time) as if it were her own personal wrecking ball.

And she only touched herself during "Adore You" a little bit.

The 21-year-old superstar wore a glittering gold crop top and pants and white heels, but the real show-stopper was the white fur coat, the one that's kept her toasty during her Jingle Ball travels, that lent a Sunset Boulevard air to the proceedings.

Overall, Miley put on a crowd-pleasing show that had everyone singing along—and cohostJenny McCarthy playfully licking a hammer on the sidelines! (That happens at around 3:48 in the clip.)
